The Enduring Icon of Strength and Dependability
The Sovereign has enjoyed an enduring gravitas and a reputation for dependability since its first introduction some 500 years ago. It quickly gained international recognition as an accepted means of paying for goods all around the world, and has long been seen as a safe haven in times of economic volatility. These qualities of reliability and desirability remain, making the 2012 Sovereign an exquisite choice for those looking to collect gold.

Icon of the British Empire
Since its introduction by Henry VII the Sovereign has continued to be one of the most recognisable and desirable coins of the realm. Universally respected, the Sovereign came to be treasured as the foundation of a great trading Empire and, to many people, is still seen as the greatest coin in the world. As well as its unquestionable quality and accuracy, the sovereign also has an international reputation for the beauty of its design. Benedetto Pistrucci’s dynamic portrayal of St George and his heroic battle with the fierce dragon is justifiably seen as a classic numismatic design.

In 2012 this theme is evolved and the Gold Bullion Sovereign’s bears the beautifully composed image of St George and the dragon by Paul Day. This is only the fourth sovereign design change in 141 years, guaranteeing that the coins will be desirable to collectors or as the perfect gift of gold.

Gold Sovereign Coins are free from Capital Gains Tax (CGT)
The big advantage that gold sovereigns have for UK resident investors, stems from a little known fact. (At the time of writing) Because they are coin of the realm and classed as money/sterling, any profit made when they are sold is free of capital gains tax (C.G.T.). This applies to all sovereigns minted from and including the reign of Queen Victoria onwards and also, incidentally applies to the more recently issued gold Britannias. Buying Gold Sovereigns is therefore very tax efficient.
