There is some archeological evidence to suggest that a culture, based in what is today Eastern Europe, started to use gold to create decorative objects. The gold was probably mined in the Transylvanian Alps or the Mount Pangaion area in Thrace.

Egyptologists have proved through excavations that at this time, gold jewellery was buried with the King of the First Egyptian Dynasty at Abydos in Egypt.
